Grew up in an Irish-American Catholic family in Chicago. Her parents were very religious so the family attended mass every Sunday, didn't eat meat on a Friday and things like cussing would get you a mouthful of soap.
At the age of nineteen she met her husband, Bill, who swept her off her feet with money, good looks and charm. When he proposed to her nine months later she didn't hesitate in saying yes, and moved to Seattle with him shortly after the wedding. Things were lovely and rosy for the first year and then she discovered a bra in the backseat of their car. A bra that definitely wasn't hers.
Cue the car being smashed into tiny little pieces.
Due to her religion Clare didn't believe in divorce so she agreed to let Bill back into the house (after a lot of grovelling and several gifts in the way of bribes) and give things another go. Despite his promises he's cheated on her several times since then, to the point that she has several step-children. Thanks to her powers of persuasion (ie. threatening him with a knife/threatening to divorce his ass and take all his money) the only time the kids come home is for Christmas. They've all either been sent to boarding school, military school or live with their mothers. The one exception is the only girl, who Clare tolerates slightly more than the boys because she's cleaner and generally less noisy than them.
Has yet to have any kids of her own. Doesn't really like children though, so that's fine.
Works as a marriage counselor (lol, the irony) and 96% of the couples she counsels stay together. This is compared to the average 42% of her co-workers. There's a running joke in the office that she scares people into giving their marriages another go, which isn't hard to believe. However the truth is that she's very good at her job and has an uncanny knack for establishing what the problem is, even when the clients themselves don't know. Ty metapowers!
She has been known to throw cheaters out her office in the past. Oh and that 4%? Often mysteriously disappear afterwards~
Can be extremely jealous and paranoid. Often drops in on her husband when he's at work to make sure he's not sexing up the secretary (which has happened in the past) and calling whichever hotel he's in. Has thrown absolute fits when she's found out the identity of his mistresses. Smashed the windows of one woman's car, pushed another done a flight of stairs (she had the good sense to tell the hospital that she'd tripped) and put up fliers in phonebooths claiming the third woman was a hooker.
Is a smart and incredibly capable woman but for some reason she needs a man on her arm, even when he's clearly undeserving of her. Despite her threats she'd never actually divorce her husband because she doesn't believe in it due to her religion. So she's stuck. Plus, as hilarious as it might sound, she does actually love him.
Her husband is the CEO of some big insurance company so she gets to attend a lot of parties and get told nice things about her, which does wonders for her ego. She probably uses them as an opportunity to crush the spirits of young, pretty twenty-somethings. Mwah ha ha. Odds are her favourite Disney movie is Snow White.
Connor Ellis ; Iolaus.
23 years old.
Getaway driver/errand boy.
Born in Seattle, the youngest of five brothers. Family was dirt poor so he's never actually been outside of Seattle. Which is sad because he always wanted to see the Grand Canyon :/
Has a tendency to end up in the shadow of people close to him, something that's been with him since birth. Growing up he had brothers who were all either smarter, braver, more athletic or better looking than him. He was that one kid who was a continual disappointment to his parents because he could never live up to anyone's expectations of him. He never showed a real aptitude for anything either, so they weren't really sure what to do with him or which direction to point him in. The careers advisor at his high school absolutely hated him.
Connor usually ended up getting into trouble too because he couldn't say no to his friends. So he got arrested several times for petty things like vandalism, disturbing the peace, public drunkenness etc.
Then he discovered his true calling: joyriding. (which fyi, is his fancy metapower because he was such a great charioteer in times of lore ie. Herc was lazy).
Found out he could hotwire just about anything even remotely resembling a vehicle and had a knack for getting cars running that had been declared dead. One of his friend's uncles took notice of him and started paying him to carry out errands. Connor was actually delivering drug packages but was completely clueless about that fact. And he still hasn't figured it out.
More people heard about him through word of mouth so he started getting work as a getaway driver which he was loved because it was exciting, dangerous and he got to do really cool things like cut through traffic and lose cops.
Makes a decent enough living and donates a portion of it every month to some children's charity. Because he's a sucker for sick orphans ;__;
Despite the kind of people he hangs around with, Connor is completely harmless and anti-violence. Unless it's him you're beating on in which case he'll get his bigger, stronger friends to kick your ass. He's also fairly easy going and comes across as a bit of an idiot, though sometimes he has moments where he appears to be very smart. One of those people for whom 90% of what they're saying is complete and utter bullshit but 10% is strangely meaningful.
He's very easily distracted, incredibly loyal and talks nonstop about absolutely nothing. Most people hate being stuck on surveillance jobs with him because he'll go on and on about the most random subjects. He does know when to keep his mouth shut though. Most of the time. Okay, sometimes he needs to be told.
Is a complete failboat with a gun. Of the two times that someone has actually been stupid enough to arm him, the first time he shot himself in the foot and the second he sent someone else to the emergency room. Most people now know not to give him anything deadlier than an envelope opener.
Completely addicted to Grey's Anatomy and will talk at great length to anyone who will listen about the powers of McDreamy's hair and the possibility of him being a meta.
Is proooossibly working with Hercules Luther Thorne but details will be hammered out later once I've spoken to Zoe.
Has probably been banned from drinking anything with caffeine.
Mathilda Reynolds ; Antigone.
26 years old.
Criminal defense lawyer.
Born in Michigan. Grew up with two brothers and a father. Her mother committed suicide when she was nine years old and her father was an incompetent drunk, so she more or less raised her little brothers. It was hard work and they were little brats but family > running away to join the circus.
Her father then disappeared when she was in her teens (disappeared, wandered off a cliff, they're not sure) so they were sent to live with their only living relatives: an aunt and uncle in Seattle. They were from the richer side of the family and kinda snobby but they didn't mistreat Mathilda or her brothers and actually paid for all three of them to go to college.
Mathilda was fortunate enough to be accepted to study law at NYU and graduated at the top of her class. Opted to move back to Seattle in order to be closer to her family, and took a job there working for a firm whose clients tend to be rich criminals. Nine times out of ten it's the usual white collar crime like tax evasion.
Power is the ability to make exceedingly good arguments. In fact she's never lost one, which is how she figured out she might be a meta. Generally people just aren't that agreeable. So when she switches on the charm people are usually convinced into agreeing with her, fighting in her corner or feeling sorry for her. So technically Mathilda sways the jury, which she knows is wrong but she tells herself she can't help it.
Aside from the fact she makes her money defending the guilty, she's actually a very moral person and loves an injustice. She spent a lot of time at protests in college because it gave her the opportunity to vocalise her feelings about all the wrongs in the world. She's kind of annoying like that.
Is a little bit of a workaholic and usually can't tell when someone's in love with her unless they outright say it. And when they do, she tends to get skittish and stop taking their calls. Things like moving in and marriage just freak her out.
She has been known though to use someone's affection for her to her own advantage, so in that sense she can be a tad manipulative. Again though, she'd claim it was for the greater good rather than trivial things (which is a lie).
