meme.
finally got my tags done. jesus. i've been so lazy at everything this week. i did however reach the half-way point of my dissertation so that's good. HALF TO GO. WOOT :>

Name me one of my characters, and I'll tell you the inspiration(s) behind their initial conception, whether they be real-life people or fictional characters.

I can't really remember why I decided I wanted to play a guidance counselor at Xavier's but I think I was wanting to pick up an adult character and that was a slot that hadn't been filled. So I mentioned it to Ash and she told me someone else was meant to be bringing a guidance counselor in but they never did. So there was room for me to create Silas. His initial personality/approach to the job was based on Jeff from Freaks and Geeks. I loved the idea of this counselor who is so enthusiastic about his job and desperate to connect to his students that he doesn't realise how completely out of touch he really is. Or that the students in question are mocking him constantly. And I figured Xavier's needed that one character who looked on the bright side no matter what but at the same time, really understand emotional pain and the lasting effects of all these traumatic events. His name came from Bones -which I had just started watching- except I changed Seely to Silas. I just liked the sound of the S with Booth. And then I saw your icon set of Ryan Gosling in Half-Nelson and bam, it all came together.

God I love Jeff and I'm so glad you brought in Silas. You're really right, he was a huge breath of fresh air and I'm always so sad when my characters WTF at him, being their dumbass teenage selves. Lorna and Nick and Gemma like him a lot. :(

Before I made Charlie I'd tried and failed with Evo twice and had given up on ever fitting into the game. It had been established for so long and there seemed to be soooo many characters that it was kind of scary. But then it was post-Cure (or maybe during, I forget) that I started getting friendly with a bunch of people who played there so I figured I'd try again. This time I decided to make an OC and see if that was any easier. Charlie's character is a mish-mash of girls from the wrong side of the tracks so I can't really pin-point any one major influence. She has a little bit of Joey Potter in her, a little bit of Oliver's Nancy etc. But I'd seen this Brit flick called Pure that had Keira Knightley in it but the main focus was on this 11 year old kid who lived with his heroin addicted mother. He was left scrambling to look after himself and his brother, while he watched his dead father's best friend continually supply his mum with drugs (and him with cash, to sort of 'buy him off' I suppose). Anyway, the whole thing was so tragic that I just HAD to use it somewhere and it ended up becoming a big part of Charlie's back story. Then when it came to choosing a pb Emilie de Ravin came to mind because she had the whole fragile beauty thing going for her in Brick. As for Charlie's stupidity, that was the product of having taken so much time off school. She's one of those kids that slips through the cracks because she doesn't make enough of a noise to get noticed, so teachers figure she's doing okay. But yeah, that's how she came to be!

Ooooo now I want to see that movie. She was a great choice for a character to pull yourself into the game with again, smart move. I love her concept. There are so few really dim characters sometimes that it makes her stand out like a lightbulb. :D ....a painted black lightbulb maybe, but.

It's really good. And it was before Keira got famous so she actually remembers how to act. She just has a supporting role but she plays a heavily pregnant junkie with aplomb. And the kid who played the central character was amazing. Oh! And Faramir was the horrible dealer :D Yesss, she really is stupid. Not just ignorant. It's good for the lols.

Jeff was the direct result of Ash and me wanting to use JP and JA together again. Then she watched Four Brothers one night and was like, "we should totally do the foster thing!" Originally they were both going to be shifters of some kind but then Ash decided to make JP a gifted to change things up a bit. Probably the main inspiration for Jeff was Mark Wahlberg's character from that movie, as well as Lincoln Burrows from Prison Break. He's this criminal type kid who had a crappy homelife and in general is kind of an ass but damn he loves his momma and his brother. So he definitely sprung from that, plus I liked the idea of him being a little bit of a womanizer and just one of those guy's guys. And then once I read up on leopards I tried to incorporate those characteristics too. Like the laziness and being able to sleep in any position/place etc. So he ended up a little softer than his original conception and not as mean as I'd originally intended but it worked.

Lord. Jack is the result of two other characters in games which either failed or I left. So he ended up being a mish-mash of those two characters (one of whom was Swing from Maimed) plus some new stuff too. His personality... I can't actually think where the inspiration for it came from because he's kind of a bastard, isn't he? I do think Breed!Jack has a little of Viggo Mortensen's character from Eastern Promises and a little of John Winchester in him, with his job and how he completely fails to relate to his child. Anyway, I didn't just want him to be a bastard and that was it but it was important to make sure that he didn't come across as a well-adjusted individual. Because he does kill people for a living after all. So basically he's a sociopath with a semi-heart of gold thanks to discovering that he has a son. Rofl :/ I completely failed at this origins story.

Okay, so I really wanted a cured student because I loved the idea of playing someone without powers at Xavier's. I then decided that I wanted a boy but I wasn't sure what exactly I wanted to do with him. And then I mentioned pbing Ed Westwick to Ash and the whole rich kid idea kinda formulated from that. I was really wary though of just making him Chuck from Gossip Girl so I decided to find a way to avoid doing that. I'd decided on his powers after thinking that the whole radiation thing would be nifty and then I started thinking about Ted Sprague from Heroes and the whole doomed love story of him and his wife. I didn't want to make it a significant other that Noah had killed though (see: Adrien) and he wasn't the type of guy to settle down with one girl anyway. So then I thought, well, wouldn't it be spectacularly twisted if he killed his favourite person in the whole world? And that's how he ended up killing his sister. It gave me room to explain why he'd take the cure, completely changed the relationship he had with his parents and transformed him from this rich kid with no worries into this grief stricken, alienated teenage boy. Which wasn't something I'd done before, so he fit in with my other characters nicely :D
